Causes of sludge floating after coagulation with polyferric sulfate

After adding polyferric sulfate, the sludge floats up in the tank. In addition to excluding the causes of sludge floatation caused by poor coagulation effect caused by quality problems such as the content and alkalinity of polyferric sulfate, it should be formed into sludge after the suspended solids in the water coagulate into alum sedimentation. Why does it float up?

1. The dosage is too large. Under the same conditions, when the same amount of polyaluminum and polyferric sulfate are used, due to their different content and action effect, and excessive or too little reagent may be used. After coagulation, the sludge floats up.

2. The coagulant aid is not selected properly. The coagulant aid here is mainly polypropylene amide, and there are many types of PAM. The matched PAM model also has a great impact on the formation of flocs, and the sludge may not agglomerate or loosen and float up under the action of water flow.

3. The sludge is not discharged in time, the do in the water is insufficient, and the denitrification reaction of activated sludge produces gas, so that the sludge formed after adding polyferric sulfate floats up.

4. In the aeration tank, due to the sudden increase of return flow, the formed sludge particles rise with bubbles or flow into the sedimentation tank.

5. Due to the sudden increase of water volume, the residence time of wastewater in the sedimentation tank is insufficient, and some sludge has no time to settle.

6. When the sludge is aged, carbon dioxide, hydrogen, methane and other gases are generated at the bottom of the tank, so that the lighter sludge floats up with it.

In addition, filamentous bacteria swelling, incomplete sludge discharge, sludge poisoning and other phenomena may cause the sludge floating in the secondary sedimentation tank. In this case, the causes of sludge floating can be preliminarily judged and corresponding treatment measures can be made according to the microscopic inspection of sludge and the observation of its shape, water volume and other conditions. Polymeric ferric sulfate belongs to inorganic polymer iron salt. In wastewater flotation treatment, the water treatment industry focuses more on the use of aluminum salt, while iron salt is more used in precipitation treatment.
